The Biergerpakt and nationality / residence permit

Advanced "modules"

For members of the Biergerpakt who wish to apply either for long-term resident status or to acquire Luxembourg nationality by option, the Biergerpakt offers an advantage.

The so-called “introductory modules” provided for by law are taken into account under certain conditions.

These three introductory modules are:

How does this work in practice ?

After participating in:

  • the Orientation Day
  • the course “Discover Luxembourg”

In order for the “language module” to be recognised, an A1 level in one of the three official languages must be certified. Several options exist:

  • submission of the “Sproochentest” certificate from LLO
  • submission of the certificate from the “Altissia” platform
  • submission of a certificate from another language course

The certificate must have been issued during the period of membership in the Biergerpakt. It must be sent by email to biergerpakt.zesummeliewen@fm.etat.lu

Once all three introductory modules have been successfully completed, the final certificate is made available in the member’s private space on the myguichet.lu platform. This certificate can be attached to the application for long-term resident status or for Luxembourg nationality by option. The applicant for nationality thus benefits from a shorter processing time.

Questions fréquemment posées

Do I still need to take the language test for nationality if I have obtained the official Biergerpakt certificate?

The Biergerpakt certificate does not exempt you from the tests required in the context of an application for Luxembourg nationality by option.

Do I have to use the Biergerpakt language-learning platform for my “language module” to be recognised?

You may also send by email a certificate confirming your participation in another language course to biergerpakt.zesummeliewen@fm.etat.lu. It is important that the learning activity took place during your Biergerpakt membership.

What is the link between the “Discover Luxembourg” course of the Biergerpakt and the course “Living Together in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg” in the context of Luxembourg nationality?

Applicants for Luxembourg nationality must take the “Living Together” course, even if they have completed the “Discover Luxembourg” course.

However, it is possible to obtain an exemption from Module 3 of the “Living Together” course if you have taken the Biergerpakt “Discover Luxembourg” course. When registering for the “Living Together” course, it is possible to upload the “Discover Luxembourg” certificate.

If you have taken the “Living Together” course, you may obtain an exemption from the Biergerpakt “Discover Luxembourg” course by sending your certificate to biergerpakt.zesummeliewen@fm.etat.lu.
